Founded in 2019 in Washington, D.C., Well Read Child is a literacy platform committed to increasing access to culturally relevant children’s books through schools, book fairs, and community partnerships. Built on the belief that every child deserves to see themselves in the books they read, Well Read Child works at the intersection of literacy, representation, and access.

We partner with self-published and indie children’s authors, schools, churches, nonprofits, and community organizations to place meaningful books directly into the spaces where children learn, gather, and grow. Through curated book fairs, and mission-driven literacy initiatives, Well Read Child removes traditional barriers to access while creating sustainable opportunities for authors and institutions alike.

Our work is grounded in service and strategy—supporting educators and families with books that affirm identity, spark imagination, and reflect the diverse experiences of today’s children, while offering authors a clear pathway to reach schools and book fairs without pay-to-play models.
