Mijiza is a young girl with beautiful dark skin. But sometimes, the kids around her say hurtful things. They tease her and say, “You’re pretty for a dark-skinned girl.”

Those words begin to make Mijiza feel unsure about herself. She starts to wonder if she would be happier with lighter skin, like some of the other girls she sees.

One day, Mijiza shares her feelings with her parents. Through their love and wisdom, she begins to see herself in a new way.

Mijiza learns that she isn’t “pretty for a dark-skinned girl.”

She is simply beautiful—just the way she is.

More importantly, she discovers that she is special, unique, and created with a purpose.

This heartfelt story reminds children that beauty comes in every shade, shape, and size—and that every child deserves to feel confident, valued, and proud of who they are.
